Safe, Unsafe & Secret Touch for Preschool & Primary Children
(includes a download of Kerri Isham's Body Smart book)
For: children ages 3 - 8 and their (foster) parents, caregivers and teachers
Teaching about safe, unsafe and secret touch supports children to be safer in the world. It is necessary for them to learn about the different types of touch. This video, along with the activities found in the Body Smart book, are ideal for preschool teachers, daycare providers, primary school teachers, (foster) parents and caregivers.
Children will learn to name their private body parts, identify the different types of touch and be able to describe their feelings, which are all necessary skills in order for children to be able to report abuse. In addition, this video also helps children to identify their trusted adults: mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, auntie, uncle, school principal, teacher, recess supervisor, etc. This lesson incorporates movement segments throughout and can be broken into smaller teaching segments.
Children will learn:
- Names of the private body parts
- Appropriate and inappropriate ways of being touched (safe, unsafe and secret)
- Identify and describe feelings and worries
- Identify trusted adults
